What online teaching jobs can I qualify for?

The online tutoring jobs you can qualify for depend on four important factors:

1.) Your nationality

This is for the purpose of the type of English you will be teaching.  For example certain schools, students, or parents might prefer teachers with a North American accent. On the other hand, many want teachers with a UK accent. Some parents want their children to learn English from teachers with a variety of English accents so that their listening skills will be well-rounded.

2.) Your level of post-secondary education

Due to government regulations, certain opportunities with Chinese-based schools require teachers to have at least a bachelor’s degree. And for non-Chinese based schools, if you have a bachelor’s degree, your rate of pay will generally be higher. Don’t worry if you don’t have one though, we have many online English teaching opportunities for people without degrees.

3.) Your English fluency level

This is quite self-explanatory.  In order to teach English online, you must be fluent in English.  That being said, we do have opportunities for people who have some English ability and want to teach their native language to English-speaking learners.

4.) Your supplementary qualifications

Online English teaching schools are looking for additional credentials more and more these days. This can include things like a CELTA, TESOL, or TEFL certificate, or an official teaching certificate from your home country. There are opportunities that do not require these certificates, however.  If you’re looking to be hired for TEFL jobs we recommend our very affordable 120-hour TEFL course.

Online teaching platform general have an established curriculum, a digital platform, and a body of students looking to connect with the right teacher. Online companies pay their teachers a set rate.

With online marketplaces, you’ll create a profile and take care of marketing yourself to the students using the platform.  The advantage with this approach is that you can usually determine your own rate of pay.  If you become popular with students, you can demand a premium for your services.

If you decide to create your own English course, it may take some time before it becomes popular with students.  However, this type of endeavour is a source of passive income and the potential financial upside is limitless.
